Today we will introduce you to the Gastro Miasto Festival in Wroclaw! What is that? Glad you asked. In our opinion, it is one of the best recurring summer events in Wroclaw where the locals are really looking forward to.

It is a festival that started with focus on regional street food, and then over time it grew further into a well established cultural phenomenon – where food is still the core but so many things have been added to give you a wholesome experience.

What is Gastro Miasto and why is it so unique?

Gastro Miasto is kind of the local culinary get-together of Wroclaw and the whole region – that means all the best food and drinks you can imagine are consolidated in one single location.

That makes it an absolute unique place on the gastro map of Poland – over 50 restaurants gather in one place and are accompanied by wineries, food producers and craftsmen, and of course free live concerts and more!

You don’t have to drive around the city to try the best spots, as they are all present here, put together in a beautiful scenery just next to the Oder river – but we will get to that in a moment, let’s first talk about the food!

Selection of food & drinks

The great part about Gastro Miasto is that actually the selection of food trucks is quite curated – so compared to other events you will find a much better selection and diversity, much more than just the typical fast food you would expect.

Let us give you some examples here:

First of all, it always has been a place where new ideas were tested and new entrepreneurs were showcasing their dishes – the first time we tried the delicious tacos from Papi Chulu was actually at the Gastro Miasto Festival, way before they opened their restaurant.

They are still part of the exhibitors today and we always enjoy their Horchata during hot summer days.

Second, even well established restaurants from Wroclaw are preparing their best classic dishes people already know and appreciate, but in addition they often have one or two special positions on the menu that you normally would not get.

Take the Craft Restaurant as example here, we love their regular menus, but remember very well the sweet bun you can see in the picture below… It was a bit like Italian Maritozzi, but with the local blueberries it was such a treat! We would eat it every day if we could.

The third reason we want to share is simply the variety of local restaurants participating. We have so many in Wroclaw and it is almost impossible (even for us) to visit all of them and try everything. Here at Gastro Miasto, you have the best of them in one single place and it is easy to share portions with friends and simply try a lot of different dishes. Once you have your favorites, you can always get back to the established restaurant again!

When it comes to the drinks, a large selection of beers from local breweries, wines from local producers, non-alcoholic drinks like Kombucha, coffee or matcha is waiting for you too.

Regional focus / supporting local producers

Another important thing is that there is a clear focus on regional products, restaurants and producers. We would estimate that more than 90% of all offers are from around Wroclaw and Lower Silesia. That makes it a great opportunity to actually support the local economy and buy regional.

Very often, the owners themselves are present and you can chat with them about the wine, cheese, beer, pastries (or whatever else they produce), ask questions, and share your feedback with them!

We have been to some of the wineries for a full day tasting on separate occasions because we simply wanted to get more 😉

Another nice idea – as we find – is that there are still always “guest slots” for vendors from other cities that have dishes you would not find in Wroclaw. One of the last times we could enjoy Raclette from Krakow – now waiting to have this permanently available in Wroclaw!

Design and Shopping

If your stomach had enough of all the nice treats, then it’s time to take care of your visual and cultural needs, right?

During the recent events, we noticed that more and more cute local designers were invited to display and sell their art. For example you can find ceramics, cosmetics, clothing and jewelry.

In particular we love two things that really spread the love of Wroclaw – the Pinbox pins and of course the little dwarfs from Wroclaw as “take me home” version.

Here in our picture you can see some of the pins, the Wroclaw edition is really spot on, but the animal or movie-themed pins likewise.

If you ask us, here you can find a lot of little gifts for friends and family 🙂

A great place for Families with Kids too

What we also like about Gastro Miasto very much, is that they also have a lot of entertainment options for kids. And that goes way beyond just a little play corner somewhere, they really put effort into it.

For example once they had this play zone in collaboration with Linden Park where kids can develop their creativity. Apart from that, on regular basis they have options like face painting, book coloring, lotteries with gifts, and much more!

The location

When we first visited Gastro Miasto, it still happened in an interesting industrial environment in an old brewery location a bit outside of the city center – which definitely had its charm.

Some years ago they moved to the best possible spot you can imagine for an event like this – the Bulwar Xawerego Dunikowskiego.

You simply walk on the Oder river promenade from the Market Hall (Hala Targowa) towards the National Museum, and you simply can’t miss it.

The location at the river promenade is so amazing because it is super spacious, you have plenty of options to sit next to the riverside with a cold drink, listen to some concerts happening, take a boat tour, and of course simply enjoy the sunset.

When and how often does it happen?

The Gastro Miasto Festival happens five times per year, typically from May to September.

If you would like to take a boat trip – no problem, with Statek Viking, Party Wave and Statek Rusałka you will have multiple options to enjoy Wroclaw from the river.
