Behind The Kiffness Project is David Scott, a musician, producer and creator who for years has been combining the sounds of contemporary electronic music with jazz freedom and satirical flair with great precision. His remixes, based on both viral recordings and classic songs, have instantly gained international popularity, and he has become one of the most recognizable Internet artists.
Before the pandemic, The Kiffness was already enjoying recognition in South Africa, earning nominations at the South African Music Awards (SAMA) and building a strong presence in the club scene. However, it was in 2020 that his work began to resonate on an unprecedented scale. A series of remixes and “online collaborations” – ranging from spontaneous reworkings to collaborations with artists from around the world, propelled him into the charts and amassed a billion-dollar reach.
His breakthrough moment came with the success of his remix of “Alugalug Cat,” which became a global phenomenon and opened the door for him to collaborate with international artists. Subsequent songs – such as “It’s a Beautiful Day” – only strengthened his position, securing him a place on the Billboard charts and viral playlists on Spotify.
His latest projects are not only entertainment, but also manifestos of social responsibility. When Kamala Harris and Donald Trump exchanged biting remarks in the presidential debate, The Kiffness turned their words into the hit song “Eating the Dogs,” which garnered 10 million views and a spot at the top of YouTube Trending in just two weeks. He donated the proceeds from the song to the SPCA animal protection organization in Ohio. Similar initiatives accompanied his reworking of the Ukrainian folk song “Oy U Luzi Chervona Kalyna” – the funds raised at the time supported victims of the war in Ukraine.
David’s performances are an audiovisual experience that combines vibrant electronics, jazz virtuosity and a highly intelligent narrative layer. The Kiffness not only mixes sounds, but also draws the audience into his world, building an atmosphere full of lightness and surprise. His concerts are a combination of satire, brilliant production and a masterful sense of rhythm that makes each event a unique spectacle.
