16. American Film Festival

The 14th American Film Festival takes place from November 6 to 11 at Kino Nowe Horyzonty in Wroclaw, with online screenings available until November 23 on the NH VOD platform. The festival will showcase a diverse range of American cinema, including premieres in Poland of award-winning films from top international festivals like Cannes and Sundance. Key titles include Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, John Trengove’s Manodrome, Alexander Payne’s Winter’s Bone, and William Oldroyd’s Eileen.

Two Indie Star Awards for outstanding independent American filmmakers will be presented, with Adele Romanski and Alex Ross Perry honored this year. The program also spotlights the works of Robert Altman through films focusing on female perspectives and explores significant but lesser-known figures in American cinema history, including black feminist documentary filmmakers Camille Billops and James V. Hatch.

Competition sections highlight emerging trends and young talent, featuring films like The Sweet East and LaRoy. Documentary sections present critical views on contemporary America, including works on far-right militias and indigenous rights. Special screenings include restored early films by Man Ray and classics such as Terrence Malick’s Days of Heaven and Victor Fleming’s The Wizard of Oz.

Festival events include filmmaker talks, masterclasses, and literary meetings under the “Reading America” series with authors discussing American cultural and historical themes. Social events like an American-themed Silent Disco and culinary presentation by Masterchef winner Mateusz Zielonka complement the festival experience.
