The Ethno Jazz Festival invites you on September 17 to the Gothic Hall at Stary Klasztor for the Wroclaw premiere of “Komeda’s Songs Without Words”. This new project from Piotr Schmidt, one of Poland’s leading jazz trumpeters, offers a unique encounter with the music of Krzysztof Komeda – instrumental versions of his unforgettable film themes and songs in fresh, original arrangements by the bandleader.

The project was commissioned by Krzysztof Balkiewicz, artistic director of the Love Polish Jazz Festival in Tomaszów Mazowiecki and a noted authority on Komeda’s legacy. Its 2024 premiere was met with great enthusiasm, and a recording of the concert, broadcast on Jazz TV, was released as a live album on February 12, 2026.

The program includes pieces such as “Filiżanka Kawy”, “Le Départ”, “One Hundred Years – The Riot”, “Szara Kolęda”, “Ja Nie Chcę Spać”, “Rosemary’s Baby”, “Z Ręką na Gardle” and “Nim Wstanie Dzień”, among others.

Following Piotr Schmidt’s earlier acclaimed albums “Komeda Unknown 1967”, “Hearsay” and “Młynarski. Bynajmniej.”, this project promises a moving and exhilarating musical journey, and looks set to become one of the highlights of Polish jazz in 2026 and 2027.

The project has already drawn praise from critics at Jazz Forum, Era Jazzu, Polska Płyta Polska Muzyka and jazzda.net for its atmospheric, masterful reinterpretation of Komeda’s themes.
