VSJF: Trio Adama CzerwiƄskiego & Kent Sangster

The ensemble draws inspiration from the roots of the 1970s jazz scene, when Jan “Ptaszyn” Wróblewski and Wojciech Karolak founded the legendary Mainstream group. Their distinctive instrumentation—featuring saxophone, Hammond organ, guitar, and drums—helped shape a unique sound that left a lasting mark on Polish jazz.
A few years later, Wojciech Karolak established his own trio consisting of Hammond organ, saxophone, and drums, recording Time Killers, widely regarded as one of the most significant albums in the history of Polish jazz. Over the following decades, Karolak continued to lead various trio line-ups, including the renowned “Northern” and “Southern” configurations.
In the “Northern” line-up, drummer Adam CzerwiƄski played a key role. Following Karolak’s passing, CzerwiƄski carried the tradition forward by forming his own trio with Hammond organ virtuoso Kajetan Galas. In January 2024, the trio welcomed Jan “Ptaszyn” Wróblewski as a guest artist, creating a remarkable formation that seemed poised for an exciting future. Although plans were cut short by Wróblewski’s passing, the vision has now been revived in the form of a new quartet.

For this special performance in WrocƂaw, the quartet will feature:
Gabriel Niedziela – guitar, one of the most promising representatives of the younger generation of Polish jazz musicians, coming from a family deeply rooted in jazz traditions;
Kajetan Galas – Hammond organ, a true heavyweight of the instrument and a worthy successor to Wojciech Karolak’s legacy;
Kent Sangster – saxophone, appearing as a special guest from Canada. An acclaimed musician and the founder of the Edmonton Jazz Festival, often referred to as the Canadian counterpart of George Wein;
Adam CzerwiƄski – drums, providing the rhythmic foundation and bringing the ensemble together with his masterful artistry.
Audiences can look forward to a selection of classic jazz standards presented through a contemporary and highly distinctive interpretation, performed in an atmosphere rarely encountered elsewhere. The evening promises a unique musical experience in one of WrocƂaw’s most intimate concert settings.
