The St. John’s Fair Wroclaw

The St. John’s Fair (Jarmark Świętojański) in Wrocław is an annual event held in late spring to early summer, typically from late May to late June, centered around the Market Square and surrounding streets such as Świdnicka and Oławska. It is inspired by the traditional Slavic celebration of Midsummer Night (Noc Świętojańska), and is associated with customs involving fire, water, and nature to bring prosperity and good fortune.

During the fair, the heart of Wrocław transforms into a vibrant, flowery space with garden-like decorations, colorful floral and herbal arrangements, and garden architecture creating a festive atmosphere. Wooden stalls line the streets offering handmade crafts, unique regional products, and traditional culinary treats. Visitors can enjoy workshops, floristic exhibitions, contests such as garland-making, and small concerts that celebrate the cultural heritage of Lower Silesia.

The fair is a family-friendly event combining commerce, cultural education, and entertainment, allowing attendees to experience traditional Slavic customs in a lively, modern setting. It is considered one of Wrocław’s main tourist attractions during this period and a celebration of local art, craft, and folklore.
