A former surfer (Nicolas Cage) returns to the paradise beach of his childhood to spend time with his teenage son. It is meant to be a men’s weekend amid the ocean waves. However, a group of locals claiming rights to the beach forbid the newcomers from entering “their territory”. Irritated by the taunts of the arrogant tough guys, the man tries to show who’s in charge and save face in his son’s eyes. Soon, however, he will painfully learn just how unequal a game he has entered. The beach, blazing with infernal heat, becomes a nightmarish trap from which he can break free only by standing up to the local gang, which even the police fear.
