Senyawa (ID) / aya (UK) / Everything is Psychedelic (UK) / Mariam Rezaei (UK/IR) — Avant Art Festival 2026

Senyawa (ID) is an Indonesian duo who fuse Indonesia’s traditional musical idioms and folkloric imagination with contemporary experimental music. Rully Shabara uses extended vocal techniques, while Wukir Suryadi plays self-built instruments, creating a sound built on abrupt shifts in dynamics, drones, rhythm and raw physical energy. For over a decade the duo have developed their own musical language, moving beyond the fixed divide between tradition and modernity.

The duo have performed at festivals and venues including CTM, MONA FOMA, Art Basel, Café OTO, Copenhagen Jazz Festival and Pioneer Works, and have collaborated with Stephen O’Malley, Keiji Haino, Otomo Yoshihide, Oren Ambarchi, Damo Suzuki and Justin Vernon. The band has received the Ars Electronica Award in the Digital Music and Sound category and the Green Room Award for music composition and sound design. Their album Alkisah was released in collaboration with more than forty independent labels worldwide.

aya (UK) is an artist from the Pennines whose work focuses on how experience and memory reshape the body. She combines the branching traditions of soundsystem culture, decentralized internet scenes and post-hardcore expression into raw, ambiguous forms built from overlapping genres.

Her music has been released on Hyperdub, YCO, Tri Angle, Wisdom Teeth and Astral Plane Recordings. In 2021 she released her debut album im hole, named Best New Music by Pitchfork. In March 2025, Hyperdub released her second album hexed!, accompanied by intense live performances and DJ sets. Together with BFTT she runs the label YCO, and has also created music for the BBC, Manchester International Festival, NTS and CTM Festival.

Everything is Psychedelic (UK) is a joint project of Birmingham rapper Tony Bontana and the anonymous London production collective psychedelic ensemble. Their music blends hip-hop with no-wave philosophy, industrial sound and punk grit.

Their debut album The Beautiful Malaise quickly drew online attention, and The Wire placed it among the 50 best releases of 2025. This Avant Art Festival concert will be one of the first chances to experience the project live.

Mariam Rezaei (UK/IR) is a British-Iranian composer, turntablist and performer working between experimental music, improvisation, noise, deformed club music and hip-hop. She treats turntables as full-fledged compositional instruments, transforming samples and sound fragments in real time.

On the album FRACTURED (2024), recorded live using multiple turntables, she breaks apart and reconstructs the languages of punk, breakcore, grime, electroacoustics and free noise, creating music that is raw, physical and full of abrupt turns.

She performs solo as well as in chamber, orchestral and operatic projects, and has collaborated with Bill Orcutt, Pat Thomas, Mats Gustafsson, Thurston Moore, Okkyung Lee and Valentina Magaletti. In 2022 she received the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Artists.
