Nocturne and Tarantelle
Karol Szymanowski and Grażyna Bacewicz are composers who, at different periods in the 20th century, redefined Polish music in their own unique ways. During the concert with the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra and Magdalena Ziarkowska-Kołacka, we will hear an arrangement of Bacewicz’s String Quartet No. 4 – a work that brought her victory at the 1951 international competition in Liège, Belgium. Szymanowski’s Nocturne and Tarantella will also be performed. Brilliant and modern for its time, it belongs to a lighter vein in his oeuvre, representing a masterful pastiche of Italian and Gypsy stylings popular in the 19th century. The rest of the programme will be announced soon.
