Millennium Docs Against Gravity is back
One of Europe’s largest documentary film festivals returns to seven cities with nearly 180 films from around the world. Alongside the screenings, there will be meetings with filmmakers, workshops, concerts, and discussions.
The festival takes place May 8–17 in cinemas across Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdynia, Poznań, Katowice, Łódź, and Bydgoszcz, and continues online from May 19 to June 1.
The 23rd edition is built around the theme “Searching” — exploring how we understand reality, look for meaning, and try to make sense of a world shaped by uncertainty and division. The films reflect personal, social, and global searches: for identity, home, truth, and connection.
This year’s selection includes award-winning titles from major festivals such as Sundance, Berlinale, and Venice. The program features both international productions and Polish films, including stories of personal journeys, political struggle, and intimate human relationships.
New sections explore themes such as women’s rights movements, father–son relationships, the New York art scene, and the situation in Palestine. A Masters section showcases new work from established documentary filmmakers, while an avant-garde strand focuses on American cinema of resistance.
The festival also introduces a new international award, the FIPRESCI Documentary Grand Prix, which will recognise the best documentary film of the year starting in 2026.
In 2025, the festival drew over 181,000 viewers, making it the largest documentary event in Poland and the second largest in Europe.
