The match was officially announced at a press conference at Tarczyński Arena on 9 June 2026 and represents the grand finale of Manchester United’s summer European tour. United – managed by Michael Carrick, who guided the Red Devils to a remarkable third-place finish in the Premier League and a return to the UEFA Champions League in 2025/26 – chose to spend their pre-season travelling across Europe rather than flying to the United States or Asia as in previous years. The Wrocław fixture is the last stop before the new Premier League season kicks off the following weekend, meaning both clubs are expected to field their strongest available squads.

AC Milan arrive having finished fifth in Serie A under Massimiliano Allegri, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League. The Rossoneri’s global pre-season tour includes a stop in Jakarta, Indonesia, before they fly in to Poland a day before the match. Subsequent editions brought Real Madrid and Fiorentina to Poland, but the 2026 instalment, with its combination of United’s global brand and Milan’s European pedigree, is widely regarded as the biggest yet.
