Luge is a real firecracker – their sound knows no boundaries, and the only thing they fear is a boring coworker asking: “What kind of music do you guys play?”.

Luge is a Canadian band from Toronto, revolving around art punk, no-wave, noise rock, and experimental pop. The group was formed in 2015 and quickly gained cult status in the local DIY scene. Their music is very hard to classify – The Ontarion magazine accurately described their live shows as “controlled chaos.” They combine danceable rhythms with heavy, complex grooves, elements of metal, funk, and God knows what else. They leap through genres like little frogs and do it absolutely brilliantly.

They tongue-in-cheek describe their own creative output as “actual rock’n’roll,” although music critics attach elaborate labels to them – from noise rock and math punk, through mutant disco, all the way to avant-garde pop and metal.

Each member brings their own taste to the band, and playing a game of “what if” breaks down the song structures into a malleable mass where incredibly catchy riffs continuously twist and turn. This youthful mix of curiosity and audacity has accompanied Luge since their inception.

Vocalist Kaiva Gotham is the glue that binds this instrumental force together with her synthesizers and voice. She sings in both English and Latvian — as she has said in interviews, Latvian lets her avoid vocal clichés, and its sound perfectly fits the absurd vibe of their music.

Luge has toured DIY stages across Canada and the United States, packing out local venues and dive bars. Notable support slots include Deerhoof, Lightning Bolt, Water From Your Eyes, Otoboke Beaver, Tropical Fuck Storm, Guerrilla Toss, Palm, and Model/Actriz. Their latest album, “make miarklez irlz” (2026), is their fourth full-length release.
