Henryk Miśkiewicz – 75 lat Mistrza i Goście

Henryk Miśkiewicz is an exceptional figure on the Polish jazz scene (and not only there). During the jubilee concert, the artist’s already well-known work will be presented along with his latest creations. Outstanding guests will also appear.

Miśkiewicz belongs to the narrow circle of the most outstanding alto saxophonists, but he also plays the soprano saxophone and the clarinet. In the 1970s and 1980s he took part in the creation of every other Polish record, belonged to the bands Jazz Carriers and Sun Ship, was a soloist of the Polish Radio Jazz Studio, and to this day leads the formation Full Drive. Among Polish jazz musicians it would be easier to list those with whom he has not played. He has performed around the world with, among others, Ewa Bem, Andrzej Jagodziński, Jarosław Śmietana, Wojciech Karolak and Adzik Sendecki. He has performed with such stars as Pat Metheny, Joe Lovano and David Murray. He is a multiple winner of the Jazz Top poll of “Jazz Forum” magazine in the alto saxophone and clarinet categories, and a Fryderyk winner.

Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski calculated that he had not played with anyone longer than with Henryk Miśkiewicz, as their collaboration lasted as long as forty-five years. “This shaggy twenty-something came to the studio and immediately surprised everyone by reading music better than books or newspapers,” the artist recalled. And he emphasised the saxophonist’s phenomenal improvisational abilities. Because Henryk Miśkiewicz cuts otherworldly solos on the alto. And he always does.
