What lies behind the legend of Zakaczawie? “Dzielnica Cudów” (“District of Miracles”) is a moving documentary project by Amadeusz Świerk, created over five years. The photographer returned again and again to Zakaczawie — a district of Legnica once called the “District of Miracles” — to meet its residents and tell their stories up close. Not a tale of sensation, but of people: families facing adversity, former prisoners with artistic souls, young people searching for their path, neighbours and a local community where everyday life can be hard, but where solidarity, pride and hope are never lacking.

Świerk’s work has been recognised at the Sony World Photography Awards, Grand Press Photo and Pictures of the Year International, and published by the Guardian, Pismo, Tygodnik Powszechny and the Kyiv Independent.
